The Webb Surname DNA Project is open to all WEBBs. The Project focuses on the Y-DNA test which must be done by a male who has the surname WEBB. Females may consider asking one of their male relatives to take the test. This male relative can be a father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle, etc. as long as they are a male WEBB and are related to you. Ultimately, the results of the test will allow the participant to define which WEBB line they belong to when compared to other participants' test results. At the present time the Project has defined over 35 distinct WEBB groups. Many individuals in these groups have traced their ancestries to the 1600's or earlier.

The test is an easy and simple process. It is done by using a kit sent from the DNA testing company. The collection of cells from inside the cheek using a small brush-like tool, and then mailing the sample back to the testing facility is all that is required. Results usually take between 4 to 6 weeks.

The Webb Surname DNA Project has chosen Family Tree DNA [FTDNA] as their testing facility. If you have already used another testing facility other than FTDNA, you are welcome to join the Webb DNA Project, but you will need to participate in the "third party upload and transfer program" at FTDNA. Different testing facilities use different methods that are not always compatible. FTDNA offers a conversion at a substantial discount and you will receive the same benefits as though you originally tested with FTDNA. Please click here for more information. [If you have further questions, please contact the Webb Surname DNA Project Administrator.] If you are a prospective participant, and wish to test at FTDNA, a group rate is provided for testing.

The Administrators of this Project are volunteers with no financial interest in any DNA testing facility.
